The price of subsidised liquid petroleum gas was raised by Rs 2.07 per cylinder on Thursday, bringing the cost of each 14.2-kg cylinder to Rs 432.71. This is the seventh such hike in six months, as per the Centre’s policy to raise the rate in phases in its bid to eliminate subsidies on cooking gas.
The cost of non-subsidised LPG, which can be purchased once the quota of 12 for subsidised LPG cylinders is exhausted, was increased by Rs 54.5 to Rs 584.
Moreover, the ninth increase in the price of kerosene comes into effect on Thursday, as per the government’s move to allow state-owned oil companies to raise its price by 25 paise a litre every fortnight for 10 months. A litre of kerosene now costs Rs 17.51 in Mumbai.
The price of aviation turbine fuel, however, was slashed by 3.7% to Rs 48,379.63 per kilolitre in Delhi, the first cut following two hikes. Oil firms revise the rates of jet fuel and cooking gas on the 1st of every month based on the price of oil and the previous month’s foreign exchange rate.
