United States President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday said he was “ready and willing to play any role” to address Pakistan’s “outstanding problems”. “Your country is amazing, with tremendous opportunities...It will be an honour [to address your problems] and I will personally do it,” the Republican told Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a phone call, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, you have a very good reputation. You are a terrific guy...Please convey to the Pakistani people that they are amazing, and all Pakistanis I have known are exceptional people,” Trump told Sharif. The US president-elect has spoken with at least 40 foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, since he won the presidential elections on November 8, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The businessman had earlier offered to play the role of a mediator between India and Pakistan to resolve disputes, but only if both countries made the request, PTI reported.
