Sawan Dutta’s Bengali auntie wants to be an “Amsterdam gaarl”, but it isn’t just the red bindi and the “monkey cap” that gives away her identity. It’s also the one thing she misses the most – shorsher tel, or mustard oil.
And so this lady sneakily adds mustard oil to her food, uses it as moisturiser and even admits being addicted to shorsher tel while everyone else drinks alcohol.
Dutta’s funny take on Bengali things are not new. She written, composed and sung about Bengali food that has won many Bengali hearts. But this one makes fun of the Bengali traveller, and scores wicked points.
The only question is: is she overplaying her hand now with this particular genre?
