Parupalli Kashyap booked a place in the third round of the Macau Open on Wednesday as he defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chun-Wei Chen 21-19, 21-8 in a 33-minute encounter.
Luck ran out for Sameer Verma who has been creating ripples in Indian badminton circles recently after reaching the final in the Hong Kong Open recently. He was comprehensively beaten in two games by Indonesia’s Muhammad Bayu Pangisthu 18-21, 13-21.
There was more reason to cheer for India as the men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy got past Hong Kong’s Chan Alan Yung Lung and Li Kuen Hon 21-11, 17-21, 21-9 over 40 minutes to progress to the next round. Singles competitors B Sai Praneeth and Saina Nehwal play their games later in the day.
Kashyap, who is competing after a long injury lay-off will face off against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-hsien later in the third round.
