India’s Sameer Verma, Parupalli Kashyap and B Sai Praneeth progressed to the second round of the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold on Tuesday.
Sameer, who had reached the Hong Kong Open final on Sunday, defeated Czech Republic’s Milan Ludik 21-11, 21-16 while Praneeth defeated Macau’s Lam Hou Him 21-3, 21-8. Meanwhhile, Kashyap got a walkover against Malaysia’s Guo Zheng Sim.
HS Prannoy, the other Indian in the fray, was forced to retire through injury while trailing 2-6 in the first game against Chinese Taipei’s Chun-Wei Chen.
In the women’s category, Saina Nehwal is slated to face Indonesia’s Hanna Ramadini in her first round on Wednesday. PV Sindhu had withdrawn from the event on Monday to prepare for the forthcoming Dubai Super Series finals.
