After three arrests on Monday, the National Investigation Agency arrested two more suspected al Qaeda operatives during raids in Madurai on Tuesday. The duo were allegedly responsible for five blasts that occurred in various courts in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala since April this year, reported PTI.
Those arrested have been identified as Mohammed Ayub Ali and Shamsudeen. While Ali works as a public liaison officer for a hearing aid company, Shamsudeen’s name came up during interrogation. Both are residents of Madurai.
The five bomb blasts took place between April and November this year. The first incident happened inside a vehicle at a parking place at the district court complex in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, on April 7. The next two were in the parking area of CJM Court Complex in Kollam, Kerala, on June 15 and within the court complex in Mysuru on August 1. Another court in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore was attacked on September 12 while the latest blast took place inside a toilet complex of the judicial court in Malappuram, Kerala, on November 1.
On Monday, three suspected al Qaeda operatives were arrested for plotting to kill 22 Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trio had allegedly sent threats to various embassies in the country. M Khareem, Asif Sultan Mohammed and Abbas Ali are also accused of being responsible for the several blasts on court campuses.
