Goals from Affan Yousuf and VR Raghunath helped India to a tight 3-2 win over Australia in the first of two Tests in Victoria on Tuesday, the Times of India reported.
Yousuf scored two goals in the first half while skipper Raghunath struck minutes after Australia equalised in the third quarter.
Australia scored their goals through Matthew Willis and Trent Mitton in the 36th and 43rd minute, but Raghunath’s penalty corner in the 44th minute gave India the decisive lead.
The win comes just days after the visitors had claimed bronze in the Four Nations Invitational Tournament, where they had lost to Australia 3-2 in the opener.
