Chief of the Khalistan Liberation Force chief Harminder Singh Mintoo, who escaped from Nabha Central Jail in Patiala on Sunday, was arrested near the Delhi-Haryana border on Monday, ANI reported. He was sent to judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before the Patiala House Court on Monday.

He was caught in a joint operation by the Punjab and Delhi police. The insurgent group leader had escaped with four others after armed men clad in police uniforms broke into the prison and fired at the guards. The other fugitives are still missing. Key prison staff were dismissed after the jailbreak. Hours later, the Uttar Pradesh Police had arrested Palwinder Singh Pinda, one of the assailants who had had broken into the jail.

Pinda told the UP Police they had not intended to break Mintoo free from the prison, The Indian Express reported. They meant to free only four members of their gang, but Mintoo and one other inmate escaped with them after they were tipped off about the plan, Pinda had said, according to Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljit Singh Chaudhary.
