An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck Nepal early on Monday. The epicentre was located at the border of the Ramechap and Solukhumbu districts, 132 km from Kathmandu. There were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage caused by the moderate temblor yet. However, police said it could take time for any reports to come in as the strong tremors were felt in remote villages in the mountains, The New York Times reported.
The country is still recovering from the devastating 7.8-magnitude quake that hit in April last year. At least 9,000 people were killed and more than 20,000 were injured in the earthquake. Strong aftershocks were felt after the calamity, including one measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale.
