Rising Indian shuttler Sameer Verma went down fighting against NG Ka Long Angus in the Hong Kong Open final on Sunday. Verma was outclassed by the Long in a match that saw the Indian make a comeback from a game down, but was outdone by some fine play in the end. He lost 21-14, 10-21, 21-11.
In the first game, nerves seemed to get to the Indian as he lost 21-14 in a quick manner. However, Verma regained his composure to win the second game 10-21. He seemed to be ruthless in his approach and keeping the rallies short.
He wasn’t backing down from a smash whenever required in the second game. However, that proved costly as Long staged a match winning effort to win the third game 21-11. Verma couldn’t replicate the form he showed in the second game and finished up in the runner-up position.
