India’s Sameer Verma, ranked 42nd in the world, stunned World No. 3 Jan O Jorgensen 21-19, 24-22 to enter the finals of the Hong Kong Open on Saturday.
Verma achieved the feat in a thrilling contest that saw him convert his second match point to clinch the match.
Verma, who has been on a dream run in the tournament, had taken a 7-1 lead in the first game. The seasoned Jorgensen though clawed back to stretch the contest. Verma, maintained his initial advantage to seal the first game.
The second game was fought tooth and nail. Verma though kept his nerves in check to claim victory in straight games.
