Sachin Singh is set to spar for gold in the final of the Youth World Boxing Championships after thumping the fancied Carlo Paalam of Philippines 4-1 in the semi-final in Saint Petersburg on Friday.
Singh, who stands to become only the second Indian to win the tournament after Vikas Krishnan’s feat in 2010, will face Cuba’s Jorge Grinan in the final, PTI reported.
Despite having a clear size advantage, Paalam could not contain Singh’s jabs from the left. The 16-year-old was also good with his reflexes and showed quick feet, throwing Paalam off balance on quite a few occasions in their 49 kg bout.
Singh is an Asian Youth Championships quarter-finalist, besides being the reigning junior champion.
