India’s PV Sindhu and Ajay Jayaram advanced to the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open in straight games victories in Kowloon on Thursday.
Sindhu had a relatively easy outing as she beat Hsu Ya Ching 21-10, 21-14. The Olympic silver medallist did not break much sweat as she dominated her opponent.
By contrast, Jayaram was stretched. He defeated Huang Yuxian 21-18, 21-19 in a keenly fought contest. Jayaram had to endure long rallies as Yuxian tested his resolve.
Earlier, Saina Nehwal had also progressed to the quarters after beating Japan’s Sayaka Sato 21-18, 9-21, 21-16 in a 51-minute long intense encounter.
