At least 67 people died after the under-construction cooling tower of a power plant collapsed in the city of Fengcheng in China’s Jiangxi province, reported the state-run Xinhua news agency. The collapse left two injured and one is reported to be missing.
The incident was traced to a work platform that crashed to the ground on Thursday morning, reported AP. Xinhua also said that an unknown number of others were still trapped under the debris.
Rescue operations at the site are under way. Five injured workers are being treated in hospital. Accidental deaths at industrial sites have become relatively common in China. In 2015, 170 people lost their lives in a chemical blast in the port city of Tianjin.
