The North East is set to be graced by Diego Maradona next month as the Argentine football legend will visit Kohima on December 11 and 12, the Telegraph reported on Wednesday.

The Argentine will arrive in Kohima on December 11, the report said. According to the state department of youth resources and sports, Maradona will play an exhibition match with an Under-16 team on December 12.

Officials in the department will work out a detailed programme for Maradona’s visit in the next couple of weeks.

“Maradona’s visit to the state will do a world of good to the Naga youth, who will be inspired to play the beautiful game in the right earnest,” the report quoted an official as saying. “He will meet young footballers during his stay. Football lovers in the state will get a golden opportunity to see the legend on home turf and in person.”
