Demonetised cash worth Rs 3.5 crore, which was seized from a passenger on a chartered flight in Nagaland on Tuesday , has gone missing, reported The Economic Times. Officials from the Central Industrial Security Force and Income Tax department had arrested a Bihar businessman, Amarjit Singh, for allegedly carrying the money in old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.
The local I-T officer has claimed that the cash was with the CISF personnel. However, the CISF has reported the matter to the Intelligence Bureau and the Central Board of Direct Taxes, said the report.
Dimapur police commissioner Liremo Lotha said that they were investigating how the cash vanished and that CISF and I-T officials have been summoned for questioning, reported the Hindustan Times.
Singh was flying in from Sirsa in Haryana on Tuesday when he was apprehended in Dimapur. Security officials had received a tip-off about him from the IB.
