Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and ex-Madhya Pradesh governor Ram Naresh Yadav succumbed to a prolonged illness in Lucknow on Tuesday, ANI reported. He was 90.
Yadav was allegedly involved in the Vyapam scam, a multi-crore scandal within the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board, which involved several high-profile professionals, politicans and bureaucrats.
Yadav served as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from 1977 to 1979, during the Janata Party regime. After he joined the Congress, he was appointed as Madhya Pradesh governor by the United Progressive Alliance in 2011 and was in office till September this year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed their condolences via Twitter.
