Britain’s Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 to win his first ATP World Tour Finals title on Sunday. Murray’s win over the five-time champion also means he ends 2016 as the World No. 1.
The year-end top ranking was on the line in a match that saw Murray outclass Djokovic at London’s O2 Arena. Murray has now extended his career-best winning streak to 24 matches. Djokovic had won the last four ATP World Finals and was attempting to equal Roger Federer’s record of six titles.
Murray, who has had a stellar season, winning Wimbledon and an Olympic gold, had dethroned Djokovic as the World No. 1 earlier this month, but had to win the World Tour Finals took keep that spot for the rest of the year.
