A doctor was detained from Delhi’s Paharganj area on Wednesday afternoon after police found that he had nearly Rs 70 lakh in Rs 100 notes in his possession. The Income Tax department will investigate the matter and trace the source of the money.
The paediatrician, who was identified as Nallal, was caught while he was stashing the cash in his car. The police told PTI that a passer-by had noticed him and tipped off the police control room. The exact amount he had was Rs 69,86,000.
Nallal, however, said that the money belongs to his businessman friend who had asked him to keep it. He told the police that he had been on his way to his house in Delhi’s Rajouri Garden.
Elsewhere, cash worth Rs 73 lakh was found in two cars in Nashik district on Wednesday evening, reported PTI. While one of the vehicles was going from Nashik to Kopargaon, the other car was on its way to Vaijapur in Aurangabad from Gujarat. The first car had around Rs 33 lakh in it while Rs 40 lakh was found in the other one. All of the money was in Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes. However, no arrest has been made and the cars’ owners are yet to be identified.
