WhatsApp has launched its video calling service after it had introduced the much-awaited feature in May for some users in the test mode. The feature can be used on all iOS, Android and Windows devices.
The new feature can be used from the call option on WhatsApp, which will now prompt two choices – voice call and video call. The company said the call quality was excellent during their trials. However, they warned that the quality might vary depending on the connection. Mobile or slower broadband connections might interfere with the video call quality, reported engadget.
The Facebook-owned company has more than one billion users across the globe, with its largest market in India. WhatsApp has over 160 million monthly active users in the country, The Economic Times reported.
Neeraj Arora, the company’s business head, said, “Video calling...is a big step forward. It is in line with our mission – we want to make sure we give every possible way for people to stay in touch with family and friends.” He said video calling was “the most immersive experience and something that makes you feel really close to somebody else”.
