The first day of the sixth round of the Ranji Trophy began on Sunday with Baroda taking on Railways at Nagpur, alongside other matches in the country. In Mysuru, defending champions Mumbai took on Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka faced Rajasthan in Vizianagaram.
Railways bowl Baroda out
Avinash Yadav and Karn Sharma bowled Baroda out for 183 as Railways took control of the first day at Nagpur. Baroda were outdone by some fine bowling as Yadav (5/40) and Sharma (3/57) combined to take eight wickets. Dhire Mistry top scored for Baroda with 50.
Vidarbha decimated
Vidarbha were bowled out for just 59 in Kolkata as Maharashtra’s Anupam Sanklecha took seven wickets. Maharashtra then took a lead of 181 runs as Naushad Shaikh (111) and Ankit Bawne (75) remained unbeaten at the crease when play ended with the score at 240/3.
Bengal make positive start
Manoj Tiwary’s knock of 56 took Bengal to 190/3 against Tamil Nadu in Rajkot. Agniv Pan also chipped in with 51 as Tamil Nadu failed to effect more breakthroughs. On Saturday, former India players Pragyan Ojha and Ashok Dinda were involved in an ugly feud ahead of the match. Both nearly came to exchanging blows during a football session with Dinda being the aggressor.
