Karnataka Education Minister Tanveer Sait (above left) filed a case against a reporter and a cameraperson of a Kannada news channel that aired visuals of him allegedly watching pornography during Tipu Jayanti celebrations in the state, The News Minute reported on Saturday. The state Congress leader filed the case against TV9’s Siddu Biradar and the cameraperson at the Raichur West police station.
Additional Superintendent of Police for Raichur SB Patil said the two employees of the channel had been charged under Section 504 of the Indian Penal Code (intentionally insulting someone with the intent to provoke the breach of public peace). “We have asked for the documents and the unedited versions of the videos. We will arrest the duo based on the evidence we collect,” Patil said.
Sait was allegedly viewing pictures of naked and semi-naked women on his phone during the celebrations, according to the Hindustan Times. Parties and organisations including the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh demanded his resignation because of the incident. However, Sait called the accusations against him a conspiracy and said he was watching Tipu Jayanti celebrations in Mysuru.
