A Hong Kong court on Tuesday has sentenced British banker Rurik Jutting to life imprisonment for the brutal rape and murder of two Indonesian women in 2014, Reuters reported. Jutting had confessed to torturing, raping and killing 23-year-old Sumarti Ningsih and Seneng Mujiasih, 26, within a span of three days in his Hong Kong apartment. The jury were unanimous in their guilty verdict.

Judge Michael Stuart-Moore described Jutting as an "archetypal sexual predator" and said, "He [Jutting] described himself as evil and a monster and neither description is adequate to bring home the true horror of what he did to that woman," CNN reported. The judge was referring to gruesome evidence videos, in which Jutting documented his torture of Ningsih and spoke of the murders, cocaine and sexual fantasies after the act, Reuters reported.

In 2014, the former Bank of America employee had pleaded not guilty to the murder charges while citing "diminished responsibility" under the influence of alcohol, substance abuse and sexual disorders, the news agency reported.

Jutting described the verdict as "just". His defence lawyer Tim Owen read out a statement by Jutting, which said, "The evil can never be remedied by me, nevertheless... I am so sorry. I am sorry beyond words." Moore rejected the apology and said, "Let no one be fooled by the defendant's superficial charm. Because that is what it is." He said the defendant had not shown a "shred of remorse".
