Ousted Tata strategy leader Nirmalya Kumar (pictured above), in a blog post titled I just got fired, said he was sacked from his position for "working intensely and extensively with Cyrus [Mistry]". His blog contradicts the Tata Group's statement that Kumar and two other executives resigned from their positions to "explore options outside Tata Sons", The Times of India reported. He said his colleague informed him about his ouster over the phone. Kumar was part of the Group Executive Council, set up by sacked Tata Group chairperson Cyrus Mistry in 2013.
The senior executive said he was not fired for non-performance as his last performance assessment was "excellent". Kumar observed that the reaction of senior executives about his ouster was "interesting" as most of them were "silent". He said, "The more we have, the more we become prisoners at the thought of losing it, rather than having it set us free." His blog post has gone viral on social media.
Kumar said that despite the "unceremonious and un-Tata like end", he had nothing against the group. He said the group and its employees deserved a "great chairman". On October 24, the board decided to push chairperson Cyrus Mistry out after Tata's shares started falling. The group has also filed caveats as a preventive measure, "fearing legal action" by Mistry, who became the chairman of the company in 2012.
