The Under-19 Indian women’s team was defeated 4-0 by Vietnam in Hanoi on Friday in their last match at the qualification stage of the AFC U-19 Championships. This was India’s second match in the group stage as they were held to 1-1 draw by Iran earlier in the week. Owing to the loss, India failed to qualify for the tournament proper with one point in two matches.
Tuyet Ngan scored two goals to open proceedings against India with a superb performance. She scored in the 35th and 43rd minutes to leave the Indian defence in shambles.
The second half saw a better show from India, but Vietnam’s Thi Nu scored in the 82nd minute to make it 3-0. Ha Thi scored in injury time to complete the 4-0 rout. Vietnam will take on Iran in the last league match on November 6 to decide the group winner.
Brief scores:
India 0 lost to Vietnam 4 (Tuyet Ngan X 2, Thi Nu, Ha Thi)
