The Noida police on Thursday evening registered a case against the son of self-styled godman Asaram “Bapu” for allegedly raping a woman three years ago. The complainant claimed the incident took place at an ashram in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area when she had gone to interview Narayan Sai while working for a local television channel, PTI reported.
She also said the head of the news channel told her not to report the incident, and that she had subsequently left the profession. According to Dainik Bhaskar, a case has also been filed against her former employer. She has given the police photographs to bolster her complaint, officials said
The woman has accused Sai of rape, threatening her life, forcing her to have an abortion and cheating, among other charges. Representatives from Asaram’s ashram dismissed the allegations asking why the woman had taken so long to come forward.
Sai was arrested in 2013 and sent to jail in Noida in connection with another rape case, in which a woman from Surat accused him of repeatedly harassing her between 2002 and 2005. Asaram, too, is in jail in connection with a rape case.
