Much has been made of the middle-class experience in India. Entire books, comics, films, and other works of art are devoted to documenting it, even though the jury is still out on who actually belongs to that category (less than two per cent of Indians).

Stand up comic Amit Tandon's take on the issue is simple: growing up middle-class means being unable to afford a visit to a five-star hotel. In a new video, he comments on his first visit to one, after he made the transition away from the category that can't afford it.

"Do I look rich enough to afford this?" muses Tandon at the beginning of the video. "Do I sound rich enough to afford this? And as a couple you are telling each other, if you see a celebrity don't get too excited." But despite their best efforts, the kids give them away. "Papa, look there's a fountain!"

And once the proverbial cat is out of the bag, things go from bad to worse.

In the past, Tandon has also analysed the traffic situation in Delhi and Mumbai. "Delhi is very different from Bombay. One, we have roads out there."
