What a Test match Mohammad Amir has had. While fielding, he held on to a stunning diving catch (his first in Test cricket) to see off Darren Bravo. Then, on Wednesday, great reflexes and athleticism were on display to inflict what would possibly go on to be one of the 24-year-old's most embarrassing moments on a cricket field.
What was more bizarre was that Pakistan, at the time, were fighting to save the Test as Jason Holder and Co. bundled out the top order cheaply. Here, Amir creames West Indies leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo down the ground and he thinks he has done enough to clear the ropes. Roston Chase at long-on puts in a terrific effort at the boundary. Despite not able to hold on to a catch, he does enough to throw the ball back onto the field before his body crosses the rope.
The Pakistani batsmen – Wahab Riaz and Amir – had no clue of what was happening. Amir was just getting back to his stride, basking at the sheer brilliance of what he had just pulled off. To his horror, he sees that the ball is still in play and the batsmen inexplicably takes off for a run. Chase's throw from the deep is accurate and Jason Holder does well to run in, collect the ball and dislodge the bails. Amir is caught short of his ground.
