Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho was charged with misconduct by the English Football Association on Tuesday. Mourinho was charged with abusing a match official during his side's 0-0 draw against Burnley on Saturday. The FA, in a statement, announced the Portuguese has time till November 4 to respond to the charge, or he could face a two-match touchline ban.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager was sent to the stands during the second half on Saturday as his side completed a fourth straight match in the league without a win. The FA's statement said, "In or around the tunnel area at half time, he [Mourinho] used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official."
The standard penalty for insulting language and/or abusive language is a fine and a one-match touchline ban, reported ESPN. The report also stated that should Mourinho fail appeal to the charge, he would be handed a two-match ban.
The decision comes on the back of another charge that the FA had slapped on Mourinho, which was after the Liverpool-Manchester United tie on October 17 at Anfield. Mourinho had remarked during the buildup to the high-voltage clash that referee Anthony Taylor would find the contest "difficult" to officiate.
