Seven men have been arrested for gangraping a woman in Mumbai's Amboli area, police told The Times of India. Officials said the incident occurred on Monday night and that one accused is still absconding.
The woman and her husband were staying at an acquaintance's house after ending the search for accommodation in the Shamnagar slum for the day, the English daily reported. It was then that the eight accused, who lived in the neighbourhood, allegedly raped her. According to NDTV, three men took her husband outside the room, while the rest gangraped her. She is being treated at a city hospital.
There were conflicting reports about the number of rapists. Officials said one of the accused has a criminal record.
