The north-east monsoon, which arrived in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, is expected to bring spells of light rainfall across the state over the next few days, said weather experts. The Indian Meteorological Department said the north-east monsoon had set in weaker than usual, reported the Times of India. The director of Regional Meteorological Centre, S Balachandran, however, said that interior districts may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Thiruvaiyaru in Thanjavur district received the maximum amount of rain on Sunday. It recorded 7 cm rainfall, while Valangaiman, Perambalur and Thozhudur received 6 cm each, reported The Hindu. Balachandran, however, allayed any fears of floods. He said Chennai and its surrounding areas would only receive intermittent rain. Last year, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts were flooded after heavy rainfall.
