Nepal has reappointed Deep Kumar Upadhyay as its ambassador to India, six months after he was dismissed from the post on allegations of working against national interest. A statement from Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari's office made the announcement on Sunday, in addition to naming Leela Mani Paudyal the country's envoy to China, PTI reported.
Upadhyay had been accused of colluding with India to overturn the then KP Oli-led government. He had been serving as Nepal's envoy to the country since April 2015. Upadhyay will now have the diplomatic ranking of a Cabinet minister under the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government. Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, was elected the prime minister on August 3 after Oli stepped down from the post on July 25.
