The vice chancellors of Delhi University and Jamia Milia Islamia on Saturday agreed to start sharing a range of resources including libraries, laboratories and teachers. The in-principle agreement was made at Jamia’s 96th foundation day celebrations, though the final Memorandum of Understanding still needs to be signed, Jamia’s vice chancellor Talat Ahmad said. The universities said this would benefit them both as several students live closer to the other’s campus.
The move will ensure the “maximum utilisation of resources”, claimed DU’s vice chancellor Yogesh Tyagi, according to The Indian Express. However, the two universities seemed unclear on how the teacher-sharing agreement would work. Tyagi merely said, “Technology enables that one need not move from one place to the other to take classes.”
Ahmad added that they should try and organise special events through which students of both universities, along with those from Jawaharlal Nehru University, can come together to share ideas, India Today reported.
