Protestors waved black flags, while another hurled an egg in Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's direction in Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday, PTI reported. A scuffle between police personnel followed. Patnaik was addressing a public meeting in the district. Officials accused Congress activists of being involved in the protest.
Police officer Abhiram Nayak told PTI that student Congress activist Rishitosh Patra was arrested for targeting the chief minister with an egg. Nayak dismissed reports of the egg hitting the chief minister. According to The New Indian Express, Biju Janata Dal supporters beat up Patra before handing him over to the police.
Officials said more than 50 Bharatiya Janata Party activists and 14 Congress members were arrested before the event.
