Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle United registered commanding victories in their League Cup clashes on Wednesday. Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield, while Arsenal continued their amazing run with a 2-0 win over Reading. Newcastle United smashed six goals past Preston at St. James’s Park.
Liverpool up and running
Daniel Sturridge was on target for Liverpool as he scored both the goals against Spurs. Sturridge was not at his dominating best but was clinical with his finishes as Liverpool continued their threatening form this season. Jurgen Klopp made 11 changes to his team, one more than Mauricio Pochettino, and it still worked as the Reds created more chances.
Arsenal continue winning streak
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored twice as Arsenal extended their unbeaten run against Championship side Reading. Arsenal made it 14 wins out of 14 in all competitions against Reading. The Gunners look like rejuvenated side, one that is hungry for trophies this season.
Newcastle United stamp their authority
Newcastle destroyed 10-man Preston at St James's Park to reach the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup. Striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored in each half on his first Newcastle start since September, while Mohamed Diame also struck twice. Matt Ritchie scored a penalty and Ayoze Perez netted in stoppage time to complete the 6-0 rout.
