India’s tennis star Sania Mirza and former Indian cricketer and current commentator Sanjay Manjrekar were involved in an exchange of words on Twitter on Wednesday over the former completing 80 consecutive weeks as the No. 1 doubles player in the world.
It started with Mirza announcing her achievement on Tuesday:
Acclaim poured in for Mirza from all quarters but Manjrekar, while congratulating her, reminded her that she was No. 1 in the doubles category.
Mirza, however, was not impressed by Manjrekar's response and pointed out that since she did not play singles anymore, it was common sense. She did thank him for his wishes in another tweet though.
But that was not the end of it. Manjrekar soon responded:
Mirza though wasn't going to let it go so easily. She responded by highlighting Manjrekar's use of the words "important detail" and provided a link to an article from the official Women's Tennis Association website.
And obviously, Manjrekar had to reply, trying to buttress his point by stating that even the article mentioned "No. 1 doubles player in the world". Thankfully, he decided to end the spat there and then.
But the former Indian cricket came in for his fair share of criticism on the social networking website.
