The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday registered a case in connection with wrestler Narsingh Yadav's doping scandal, ANI reported. Yadav was denied a chance to participate in the Rio Olympics after he failed a dope test in July. The case was handed over to the agency on September 16 on the 26-year-old's request for a CBI inquiry into the allegation. He had claimed it was a conspiracy against him.
Yadav, who won a quota spot for India at the Rio Olympics, had tested positive for a banned steroid following a dope test in July. Although the National Anti-Doping Agency had given him a clean chit in August, the World Anti-Doping Agency had rejected the verdict and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The CAS, in turn, had slapped a four-year ban on the international wrestler, a day before he was scheduled to fight his first bout in the Summer Games. The CAS had also rejected the argument that he was a victim of sabotage.
