At least 32 people died after an overloaded ferry sunk in Chindwin river, Myanmar on Monday, Reuters reported. Officials said they expect to find several more corpses as over 80 people have been declared missing. Rescue workers saved 154 passengers after the vessel sunk.

According to BBC, the ferry was transporting more than 250 people despite having a carrying capacity of 120. Ferry accidents are a common occurrence in the country, which has poor water transport infrastructure leading to overcrowded vessels.

In April, at least 21 people died after the boat they were travelling in capsized off Myanmar's Rakhine coast. Fifty-two people reportedly died when an overloaded ferry sank off the country's west coast in March.
