A terrifying video shot near Guadalupe Island, which is off the west coast of Mexico, has people watching in horror and sharing compulsively. Posted on Thursday, it had 12 million views at the last count.
A great white shark breaks through a protection cage while the diver is inside. While for a few brief moments, the other members in the diving team panic, the shark swims away and the diver in the cage comes out unhurt.
However, while the divers involved with the video have had no fear of the water and want to return, shark conservationists are fearing a backlash. Experts are trying to point out that this is a one-in-a-million occurrence and that shark tourism like this brings in money and awareness.
A similar video had gone viral in 2007. The diver escaped unhurt on that occasion too.
