Two-time Olympic medal-winning wrestler Sushil Kumar on Saturday confirmed that he had met top officials from the United States' World Wrestling Entertainment but stated that an immediate move seemed unlikely.
If the move materialises, Sushil Kumar has big shoes to fill with the statuesque The Great Khali going on to create ripples in the circuit, “I had a very good meeting with the head of the WWE talent development and I am exploring a lot of options as I just want to continue wrestling,” Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI.
The report also added that the head of talent development in WWE, Canyon Ceman, flew down from the US to have a chat with the 33-year-old wrestler about the move. However, Kumar ruled out bidding adieu to amateur wrestling, “I would not say that I am leaving the amateur arena. I am just keen to explore other avenues as I really want to continue playing,” he added.
Raman Raheja, whose company Super Sports takes care of Kumar’s commercial deals, confirmed that that talks have been on with the wrestling company and the Haryana wrestler and that an announcement is imminent, “Something is going to materialise soon...in about a month or so we will finalise something. Today Canyon had a face-to-face meeting with Sushil for the first time. He had come all the way from Orlando to meet Sushil,” Raheja was quoted as saying in a Hindustan Times report.
