The Delhi Police on Friday arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan on assault charges, ANI reported. On October 9, a first information report was lodged against the legislator for allegedly attacking the president of the Mohan Garden Resident Welfare Association, Henry George.
George, a former AAP volunteer, had accused Balyan and his supporters of entering his office, assaulting him and making threats against his life, according to PTI. However, Balyan's aides had filed a counter-complaint, alleging that the RWA president and his supporters had abused and attacked the Uttam Nagar MLA and his group as they were passing by the Mohan Garden area.
Both the cases were registered at the Uttam Nagar Police Station under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation.
Balyan is among a series of AAP MLAs who have been arrested in the past few months in connection with a number of cases, while many other party legislators were booked.
