French automaker Renault on Wednesday announced the recall of 50,000 units of its entry-level hatchback Kwid in India because of a defective fuel system, PTI reported. The recall involves the 800 cc variant of the model that were manufactured between October 2015 and May 18, 2016.
However, the company said in a statement that the move is a pre-emptive inspection. "As a proactive measure, a fuel hose clip will be added to these select cars, along with the evaluation of overall functionality of the fuel system to mitigate any potential disruption of fuel supply," the statement said, adding that they were requesting customers to get their cars inspected at dealerships. The service can be availed free of cost.
Kwid has been Renault's best-selling entry-level hatchback since its launch in India in September 2015, according to PTI. As many as 56,028 units of the model were sold across the country in the April-September period this year. In August, the company launched a 1000 cc variant of the car.
