The Indian Army's surgical strikes on terror launchpads across the Line of Control with Pakistan inflicted the maximum damage on the Lashkar-e-Taiba, accused of carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attacks. According to PTI, the Army's assessment reports, which included intercepts of radio conversations among groups in Pakistan, indicate that around 20 LeT militants were killed in the strike on the Dudniyal launchpad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Officials told PTI on Sunday that five teams of soldiers were formed to destroy the Dudniyal launchpad, which is located across from Kashmir's Kupwara sector. According to the assessment report, the militants were killed as they ran to the nearby Pakistani post. Officials added that radio communications were strictly monitored after the Army's surgical strikes, which were carried out on the night of September 29. Pakistan, however, had dismissed India's claims saying they were nothing but cross-border firing.
According to the officials, the Pakistani Army worked till dawn to clear the region of bodies, after which a mass burial was held at Neelum Valley. Two Pakistani soldiers had also died in the surgical strikes. The Indian Army had said they had acted on intelligence that infiltrators had been planning to cross the LoC into India to launch attacks. Officials said the Army had held off the strikes till all militants had gathered at one location.
