The Indian junior men's hockey team lost 1-5 to New South Wales Waratahs in the bronze medal match of Australian Hockey League on Sunday. The Indian team is using the tournament as a preparatory tournament for the Junior World Cup later this year.
Lachan Sharp hit the first goal for the Waratahs within six minutes of the match. In the second quarter, Tom Craig and Landon Morely got on the scorecard to make it 3-0. India pulled one back with Gurjant Singh via a penalty corner conversion in the 25th minute to make it 3-1. However, at the end of the third quarter, Morley converted a penalty corner to make it 4-1.
In the final quarter, India gave it their all, but fell short with Craig putting the final nail in the coffin with his second goal of the match.
Indian coach Harender Singh said, "At crucial times we have made some small mistakes, but we would rather make them now and learn and correct them, than in Lucknow in December [during the World Cup]."
