Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli and vice captain Ajinkya Rahane continued to dominate the New Zealand bowlers as they scored a record-breaking 365-run partnership, taking India to 456/3 at tea. Kohli struck his second double century, becoming the first Indian to score two 200s in Tests as captain, and Rahane scored his first ever Test 150.
The partnership is now India's highest ever for the fourth wicket, beating Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman's 353 against Australia in Sydney, 2004.
The duo continued their amazing run, hitting the Kiwi bowlers all around the park, with Rahane playing an aggressive brand of cricket and Kohli timing the ball to perfection. For the Indian Test captain, who was under severe criticism for his drop in form, the double century will ease the pressure of his shoulders.
With the duo's outstanding performance, the Black Caps failed to make a comeback in the series with this Test match. India has set their sights on a near-600 target, leaving the Kiwi batsmen with no choice but to perform their best if they wish to win, or at least draw, this Test match.
