Kohli's performance was immaculate, after he had been questioned by critics for not being in form following a double century against West Indies in July. Along with Ajinkya Rahane, who hit 79, the pair had an unbeaten partnership of 167 runs at the end of the day’s play.
India had a slow start, losing their top three batsmen for 100 before Kohli and Rahane stabilised the team's innings.
