India’s young shuttlers are leading the way at the Russian Open with Ruthvika Shivani Gadde and Siril Verma entering the women’s and men’s final in the singles events respectively, on Saturday.
Fourth seed Ruthvika stunned second seed Ksenia Polikarpova 22-20, 21-13 in a semi-final that lasted for just half an hour. She will take on another Russian Evgeniya Kosetskaya in the final on Sunday. Verma beat Russia’s Anatoliy Yartsev and will face top seed Zulfadli Zulkiffli of Malaysia in the final.
The mixed doubles pair of N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Jerry Chopra also reached the final with a 21-11, 21-17 win over local duo of Anatoliy Yartsev and Evgeniya Kosetskaya. The Indian pair will play Russia’s Vladimir Ivanov and Valeria Sorokina for the title on Sunday.
