Actor Fawad Khan on Friday said he wished to build and live in a "more peaceful world", speaking up for the first time since a resolution was passed by a film body to ban Pakistani actors from working on projects in India. "As a father of two little children, I pray and wish like many others that together we can build and live in a more peaceful world. I believe we owe it to our children who will shape our tomorrow," Khan said on Facebook.
On September 29, the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association had passed a resolution to "ban" Pakistani artistes and technicians from shooting in India till "normalcy" returned. The move followed the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena issuing a 48-hour deadline to all Pakistani actors on September 23 to leave India.
Referring to the developments as "sad incidents", the actor clarified that this was the first time he had commented on the matter. "Please disregard any other words attributed to me during this time because I have not said them," he said, thanking his fans, colleagues and well-wishers extending "continued support" in a "divisive world".
Khan also ended speculation that he had left the country after the MNS threat, which was made hours after the Indian Army had announced that it had conducted surgical strikes on terror camps along the Line of Control with Pakistan. He said he had been in Lahore since July as he had been expecting his second child with his wife Sadaf. His latest Bollywood film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is slated for release on October 28.
