United States Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is scheduled to address a gathering of Hindu-Americans in New Jersey on October 15, PTI reported on Friday. This will be Trump's first time addressing an ethnic community in an individual event, founder of the Republican Hindu Coalition Shalabh Kumar said in New Delhi. Officials said 50% of the proceeds from the event, titled "Humanity united against terror", will be donated towards the cause of Kashmiri Pandits.

Kumar said, “This is a charity concert organised for the benefit of terror victims in various countries.” Kumar, who is also chairperson of the Republican Party's Indian American Advisory Council, said Trump "agreed immediately". Kumar said, “He told me India was a great country, he liked Indian people and said he found Hindus to be peace-loving people,” Hindustan Times reported.

The English daily said about two million Americans identify as Hindus, with people of Indian origin comprising dominating that group followed by others from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Caribbean. The number of Indian Americans is pegged at around 3 million. Most of the Indian American community – nearly 65% – supports the Democratic Party, while 18% favour Republicans, according to a 2014 Pew survey.
