A team of three doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, arrived in Chennai on Wednesday to provide further treatment for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Professor of pulmonary medicine GC Khilnani, professor of anaesthesiology Anjan Trikha and cardiologist Nitish Naik will assess the treatment and recommend changes, if necessary. “We can say something after rounds by doctors are over and there is some update,” a hospital official told Hindustan Times.
Besides this, a specialist doctor Richard Beale, who had flown down to Chennai from London last week, may again be called in, reported The Hindu. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief was admitted to Apollo Hospitals on September 22 with "fever and dehydration", according to her party leaders. Hospital officials told NDTV on Wednesday that the chief minister is now in stable condition and is responding to treatment.
On Thursday, the Madras High Court dismissed a petition that had asked for a government statement on Jayalalithaa’s health and sought the appointment of an interim chief minister. The court called it a "publicity petition". It was filed by activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy.
The chief minister's health has been a major concern for the state, especially amid speculation that her condition has deteriorated significantly, though the party has maintained that she is recovering. Opposition leaders like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's M Karunanidhi had asked the ruling AIADMK to release pictures to prove she was not in critical condition. The ruling party has also filed four police cases against people spreading rumours about her health on social media.
